The new season of the EUHL started
The 8th year of the EUHL started with five games last week. We could see both new teams from Poland in action, so let’s check how they competed.
The last year was cancelled due to coronavirus and we are happy that this season started without any problems on Thursday 21st of October with the first two games: UMB Hockey Team Banska Bystrica – Sapientia U23 and UHT Sabers Oswiecim – HC UNIZA Zilina.
The current titleholder, UMB Hockey Team Banska Bystrica, did not start the new season in the best way. The key factor in a game against Sapientia U23 was the second period, where the Romanian team scored four times and took a lead 5:2. The Slovak team tried to come back but it did not happen.
UMB Hockey Team Banska Bystrica – Sapientia U23 4:6 (2:1, 0:4, 2:1)
Goals: Chamula (2), Jendrol, Novodomec – Salamon (2), Antal H., Antal L, Karda, Galusnyak.
Goaltenders: Gustafik – Ambrus.
This match was the premiere in the EUHL for both teams. The Polish team did not give any chance to the Slovak club and dominated from the very beginning of the match. Yahor Piankrat scored the first hat trick of the season.
UHT Sabers Oswiecim – HC UNIZA Zilina 11:2 (4:1, 3:0, 4:1)
Goals: Piankrat (3), Prusak (2), Yerassov (2), Dudkiewicz, Wytrykus, Kot, Fus – Simko, Nemeth.
Goaltenders: Ramanauskas (Kaczkowski) – Janek (Ciganik).
The next games were played only two days later. Sapientia U23 and HC UNIZA Zilina continued their away trips. Sapientia U23 faced Gladiators Trencin. This match was equal in the first period but then the home team scored four goals in a row and Sapientia was not able to come back.
Gladiators Trencin – Sapientia U23 5:3 (1:1, 3:0, 1:2)
Goals: Osvald, Blicha, Smolka, Trencan, Pataky – Antal H. (2), Karda.
Goaltenders: Dusak – Beres.
HC UNIZA played on its trip against both Polish teams in the league. For Opole HK it was the first experience in the EUHL. Zilina started the match in a great way when the Slovak team was winning 2:0 after three minutes. However, since this time only Opole HK was scoring and got the first win in this competition. Additionally, Gavin Fleck scored the first hat trick for this team.
Opole HK – HC UNIZA 7:2 (1:2, 3:0, 3:0)
Goals: Fleck (3), Panzeca (2), Sadowski, Frolov – Ondrasky, Nemeth.
Goaltenders: Dabkowksi – Janek (Ciganik).
Opole HK also played the second home game, only one day after the match against HC UNIZA Zilina. The opponent was Sapientia U23, for whom it was the third game in four days.
Opole HK – Sapientia U23 6:3 (1:1, 2:1, 3:1)
Goals: Fleck (2), Yevgeni, Panzeca, Sadowski, Coleman – Antal H., Lazar, Benedek.
Goaltenders: Tipert – Beres.
