Gladiators Trencin is the university champion of Slovakia
There was a ceremony held before the playoff’s semi-final between Gladiators Trencin and UMB Hockey team Banska Bystrica. Trencin was awarded the title of the university champion of Slovakia thanks to winning the regular season of the EUHL.
The University student council (SRVŠ) has close cooperation with the European University Hockey League (EUHL) in many areas. One of them is related to awarding the title of the university champion of Slovakia to a school that finished in the highest position in the regular season of the EUHL among its Slovak participants. That was Gladiators Trencin this season, which additionally also won the regular season. UMB Hockey team Banska Bystrica was in second place between the Slovak teams and finished fourth in the full league table.
The ceremony took place symbolically before the semi-final game of the playoffs between the two mentioned universities. Anton Cvik, Vice-Chairman for youth and sport, and Milan Svolik, Chairman of the General Assembly, handed over the award in the name of SRVŠ. The award was received by: Roman Moravec (sports director of the club), Lukas Fryvaldsky and Peter Uher (managers), and Miroslav Habsuda (the captain of the team). The important person at the ceremony was Jozef Habanik, a rector of the Alexander Dubcek University of Trencin, who supports this project from his position in a great way and has an important role in the development of the university hockey in one of the biggest cities in Slovakia.
The representatives from the EUHA (Lubomir Sekeras, vice president, and Peter Spankovic, GM) and the SRVŠ (Anton Cvik and Milan Svolik) used this opportunity for a meeting related to a conversation about closer cooperation between these organizations that would lead to improvement of the university hockey and its conditions for all participated subjects. This meeting was held before the semi-final match between Trencin and Banska Bystrica. SRVŠ is the highest representative body of the university students in Slovakia and works not only on the national base but also internationally as a member of the Student European Union. The agreement about closer cooperation would lead to many advantages in various directions.
