The European University Hockey League is ready for an incredible sixth season
Bratislava – September 27th 2018
EUHL is coming to its 6th edition, which will again be something special. The European University Ice Hockey League has already gone thorugh five successful seasons, and for that time, it has shown a great amount of hard work within an college hockey. Even in the new season, all fans and members of the EUHL community may find a lot of amazing news worth looking for. Most probably, the biggest progress is the opening of the Northern Division and the EUHL expansion with new teams. For hockey fans there is also an invitation to see a confrontation between Czech and Slovak hockey teams connected with the occasion of the centenary celebration of founding the Czechoslovakia.
During the holiday months, we’ve informed you on our website through a number of articles about the arrival of new teams. “In the Eastern Division, ten to fifteen teams should be the part of the new season, the total number is not finalized yet, since some teams are still finalizing the last details to be fully prepared. This division consists of Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. We are extremely proud that these teams from neighboring countries are active in the EUHL and we are happy they have decided to represent our organization and to build the university hockey with us,” said Boris Jankovsky, EUHL Marketing Manager.
As we mentioned earlier, the biggest progress and change in the upcoming years is that EUHL is already expanding to the north of Europe. The opening of the new Northern Division is a huge step forward. We see the arrival of Sweden into our organization as something amazing. This country, where ice hockey is a national sport, will certainly give the EUHL a new energy and will belong a huge asset for us. We have five teams to register, but we expect the teams from Estonia and Latvia to join us also as a part of our expansion this year. Everything seems that in the new season there will be a total of seven countries in the league, which is a huge step forward for us.” Said the ambassador of the EUHL, Ľubomír Sekeráš. Everyone in the European University Hockey Association worked hard during the summer break and these are the results.
EUHL is similar to the college competitions in USA. “Linking college ice hockey to professional career is very important. Nowadays, up to 33% of ice hockey players entering NHL come from college ice hockey leagues (also known as NCAA). That is why we think the project has its merits and place on the ice hockey map,” adds Boris Jankovsky.
The prestigious Sekeras Trophy, named after one of the league founders, Ľubomír Sekeráš, will compete in the Eastern Division with fifteen teams: UK PRAGUE, ACADEMIC Pilsen, Paneuropa KINGS Bratislava, UMB Hockey Team Banská Bystrica, GLADIATORS Trencin, Diplomats Pressburg, 1928 KTH Krynica , Engineers Prague, KMH Budapest, Cavaliers Brno, HC Masaryk University Brno, Olomouc University Shields, BO Ostrava and VŠTE Black Dogs Budweis
The Northern Division consists of five teams from Sweden and one team from Estonia and Latvia: Lund, Växjö, KTH, Chalmers, Jönköping, UHLE and LSHA.
