University Teams Prepping for Start of the EUHL 2020/2021
EUHA – University Teams are spending their summer days on ice and in the gym in preparation for the eighth season of European University Hockey League. Start of the season is planned for the beginning of October 2020. EUHA Board Committee is in ongoing negotiations with representatives of universities participating in the EUHL and with representatives of potential newcomers to the league – universities from Poland (Nowy Sacz – Krynica), Austria (Vienna, Salzburg), Slovakia (Žilina, Bratislava). Several university teams have already confirmed participation in the EUHL Season 2020/201 – Romanian team Sapientia U23, two-time EUHL champion UMB Banská Bystrica, UTB Zlín, Gladiators Trenčín, UKF Philosophers Nitra and four-time EUHL champion UK Praha. Gladiators Trenčín and UK Praha have been participating in the EUHL from is very first season in 2013/2014.
The EUHL family is gaining a new member this season – University Team HC UNIZA representing the University of Žilina. This team has been eying the EUHL even before the start of this past season but needed time to create more stable environment for the project. They spent the last year preparing, negotiating and most importantly creating suitable conditions at the university and stadium. We are very pleased that the team manager of HC UNIZA Mr. Gašparovič managed to “start” the university team. We strongly believe that this university team will become a strong EUHL organization offering services for students in Žilina and its surroundings.
The EUHA Board Committee is taking all the necessary measures and steps to ensure a smooth start of the EUHL season and hopes to meet university hockey fans at stadiums in October cheering on teams vying for the Sekeras Trophy.
