EUHL Expansion Discussed in Győr.

Győr, July 14, 2026 – A working meeting between representatives of the European University Hockey Association (EUHA) and representatives of Hungarian and Romanian university hockey clubs was held in Győr, Hungary. The participating clubs confirmed their interest in joining the European University Hockey League (EUHL) as early as the 2026/2027 season.

EUHA was represented by Vice President František Sádecký, General Manager Peter Špankovič.

Representatives of the following clubs also attended the meeting:

  • Lehel HC – Szilárd Rusznyák (Technical Director), Nikolett Farkas (Team Manager), Tamás Görbe (President)
  • Debreceni Hoki Klub – Márta Plásztán (President), József György (Technical Director)
  • DUE Angels Dunaújváros – András Kováts (President), Ákos Halász (Head Coach)
  • Sapientia U23 – Tamás Horvát (President)
  • SZESE Győr – Tamás Gyömörei (President)
  • UNI GYŐR ETO HC – Igor Tóth and Péter Boros (General Managers)
  • Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation (MJSZ) – Gábor Géczi (Strategic Director)

The main topic of discussion was the organization of the 2026/2027 season, which will be played in a tournament format. Representatives of all participating clubs confirmed their willingness to host one of the tournament rounds at their home venues and actively contribute to the organization of the league.

The meeting also focused on the participation requirements for teams, player eligibility regulations for the EUHL, and the organization of the SEKERAS TROPHY Final Tournament, where the top four teams following the regular season will compete for the championship title.

"We are pleased that our Hungarian partners organized this meeting in Győr, bringing together representatives of clubs that have previously competed in the EUHL, as well as new organizations interested in joining the league. The discussions were highly constructive, and I believe that all participants left satisfied with the outcomes of the meeting," said EUHL General Manager Peter Špankovič.

EUHA Vice President František Sádecký also highlighted the next stage of the league's expansion:

"On Monday, July 20, we will meet in Oświęcim, Poland, where we will hold discussions with representatives of Polish university teams regarding their possible participation in the European University Hockey League."

At the conclusion of the meeting, EUHA representatives expressed their appreciation for the long-standing cooperation with Hungarian universities, which also confirmed their interest in further strengthening the partnership through the signing of a joint Memorandum of Understanding.

The meeting in Győr once again demonstrated the growing interest in expanding the European University Hockey League and strengthening international cooperation in university sports. The planned expansion represents another important step in the development of university hockey in Central Europe while further enhancing the international profile and prestige of the EUHL.
