Polish University Clubs Confirm Their Interest in the EUHL.

Oświęcim, July 20, 2026 – The European University Hockey Association (EUHA) continues to strengthen its international cooperation. During a working meeting held in Oświęcim, Poland, representatives of the EUHA met with officials from the Polish University Hockey Association (PUHA) and Polish university hockey clubs to discuss the organization of the upcoming European University Hockey League (EUHL) season, which will introduce a new tournament format and further expand the competition.

The New Season Will Introduce a Tournament Format

The Polish University Hockey Association was represented by its President, Paweł Dworzak. The meeting was also attended by representatives of Sabers Oświęcim, the reigning SEKERAS TROPHY champions, represented by team manager Alex Trandin, and Opole United, represented by club president Devin Panzec.

The EUHA delegation consisted of President Ľubomír Sekeráš, Vice President František Sádecký, and General Manager Peter Špankovič.

The main focus of the meeting was the organization of the 2026/2027 season, which will, for the first time, be played under a tournament-based format. The new system will make the competition more attractive, improve the efficiency of game organization, and create additional opportunities to strengthen international cooperation among university hockey clubs.

The First Tournaments Will Be Held in Opole and Oświęcim

The participating clubs confirmed their readiness to host tournaments in their home cities. The opening tournament of the new season will be organized by Opole United from September 18–20, 2026. The second tournament will take place in December 2026 and will be hosted by Sabers Oświęcim.

PUHA President Paweł Dworzak also informed the EUHA leadership that a university team from Janów has expressed its interest in joining the league. This represents another important step in expanding the EUHL's presence in Poland and reflects the growing interest in university hockey.

Competition Regulations Were Also Discussed

The discussions also focused on the participation requirements for clubs, player eligibility rules for the EUHL, and the organization of the SEKERAS TROPHY Final Tournament, where the top four teams of the regular season will compete for the championship title.

EUHA representatives also expressed their appreciation for the excellent cooperation with Polish universities, which confirmed their interest in further strengthening the partnership through the signing of a joint Memorandum of Cooperation. The meeting once again highlighted the growing importance of the EUHL as an international platform for the development of university hockey in Europe.

SEKERAS TROPHY Officially Presented to the Champions

The programme also included a ceremonial presentation of the SEKERAS TROPHY. EUHA President Ľubomír Sekeráš, together with Vice President František Sádecký and General Manager Peter Špankovič officially presented the championship trophy to Paweł Dworzak, President of the Polish University Hockey Association.

Dworzak accepted the trophy on behalf of Sabers Oświęcim, the champions of the 2025/2026 EUHL season. The ceremonial presentation symbolically recognized the historic achievement of Polish university hockey while reaffirming the strong partnership between the EUHA and Polish university hockey clubs.

The meeting in Oświęcim once again confirmed the growing interest in the European University Hockey League. The expansion of the competition with new teams, the introduction of the tournament format, and the continued strengthening of international cooperation provide a solid foundation for the further development of university hockey across Europe.
